A Barrie man is among five people facing charges after a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store in Oshawa Centre over the weekend.

Police say officers responded to Bellagio Jewellers II located inside the mall around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Reports indicated that multiple suspects showed up at the store, allegedly smashed display cases and deployed bear spray.

Durham Regional Police say four of the suspects entered the store while a fifth waited in a vehicle parked outside.

Two suspects were arrested inside the mall, while the remaining took off in the waiting vehicle before being involved in a minor crash near Stevenson Road North and King Street West.

Video obtained by CTV News shows the suspects being chased by police before the arrest with the assistance from the K-9 unit.

One jewelry store employee was treated for exposure to the bear spray.

Among those charged is 22-year-old of Barrie, who faces a list of charges including robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon, disguise with intent, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and drug-related offences.

Police also charged two additional adults, a 15-year-old and one 17-year-old from the GTA. All five of the accused were held for bail hearings.

These allegations have yet to be proven in court.
