Barrie Fire & Emergency Service encourages residents to participate in Fire Prevention Week, running until Saturday. This year’s theme centres on device charging habits to help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires. Most of the electronics we use in our homes every day are powered by lithium-ion batteries. In fact, almost everything that’s rechargeable uses this kind of battery, says Barrie Fire Chief Kevin White. “As technology continues to evolve, so do the fire safety risks in our homes,” said White. “Lithium-ion batteries are an important part of our daily lives, but they require proper care and attention. Fire Prevention Week is an opportunity to share practical tips that help residents charge safely, recognize warning signs, and reduce the risk of fires before they happen.” Barrie firefighters are visiting schools throughout Fire Prevention Week and are hosting several free community events, including: Georgian College pop-up Ask Barrie Fire Barrie Fire Takeover and Kids Workshop
