Owen Sound man, 21, surrenders in fatal hit-and-run, victim identified

A 21-year-old man is arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Owen Sound.

Police say a 21-year-old man surrendered to police in the case of a fatal hit-and-run in Owen Sound.

The collision happened on Saturday at around 3 a.m. near 5th Street East and 5th Avenue East.

The Owen Sound Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Branch had appealed to the public for help identifying the driver of the vehicle who left the scene after the crash.

After consulting legal counsel, the Owen Sound man turned himself in at the police station. He has been arrested and charged with failing to stop at an accident causing death and dangerous operation causing death.

Following his arrest, police executed a search warrant at a home on the city’s west side, where they say key evidence related to the incident was located. They continue to seek the public’s assistance in this fatal collision.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Rohan O’Donoughue from Owen Sound.

While police say this marks a significant step forward in the case, they continue to ask residents and businesses in the area to review camera footage, including doorbell and dashcam recordings in the hours surrounding the incident and submit to the authorities.
