VANCOUVER, B.C. - Ballard Power Systems says its fuel-cells have been chosen to provide a power source for a public safety wireless network being deployed in Denmark by Motorola Inc.

Ballard's fuel cells will be used for backup power in about one-quarter of the approximately 500 base stations in the network, which is to provide reliable, secure communications for police, fire and other emergency professionals.

The Vancouver-based company is recognized as a world leader in the design, development, manufacture and sale of fuel cells, which convert hydrogen into electrical power without combustion.

Ballard shares rose to their highest close in a week on Monday, gaining 13 cents or 6.7 per cent to close at $2.06 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
