General Motors announced on February 12 that it has confirmed its recently unveiled affordable-EV Bolt concept for production.

The concept, currently on display at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto alongside the next-generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt EV sedan, made its debut in January 2015 at the NAIAS in Detroit.

GM says a positive customer response to the concept has pushed them to greenlight production, and though they couldn’t confirm timelines, they did note it would likely be built near Detroit.

The Bolt will be made available across Canada, boast a 300-km battery range and a sales price around $30,000.

General Motors also announced it would be throwing $560 million into its Ingersoll, Ontario plant to retrofit it to build the new Chevrolet Equinox.

The CAMI plant builds the current-generation Equinox and GMC Terrain, but Terrain production is expected to move to Mexico in 2016.
