Nova Scotia country musician Tyler Salsman was sitting in the parking lot of Acadia University, getting ready for his first class of the morning, when he learned he had won an award in Nashville. Salsman scored a Josie Music Award for Song of the Year – Country Male (Division D) for his track “Wrong Things Right.” The awards recognize independent artists from around the world. “When I heard that I won, that was a little kid’s dream come true,” Salsman said. Salsman penned the song with Keven Daken and Brookyln Blackmore after winning a contest to have a songwriting session with them. “The success of the song doesn’t just help Tyler, it helps the country community at large,” Daken said. “There are a number of very talented country artists in Nova Scotia and it’s hard to get recognition and visibility for them because country is not the dominant genre here in Nova Scotia. “He’s got a very bright career in front of him.” Salsman is studying to get a Bachelor of Music degree and hopes to build off his award success. “I’m going to continue to perform as much as I can,” he said.
