One of Halifax’s legendary underground hip-hop artists is marking nearly three decades in the scene with a new record and a big hometown show. Tachichi, a mainstay of the city’s rap community since the ‘90s, is set to drop what he estimates is around his 20th album. ‘Peak Performance’ blends socially conscious rhymes with hard-hitting, boom bap-inspired beats. “It’s an album with an assortment of producers,” Tachichi said in an interview with CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. “It’s hard but funky at the same time.” The album’s first single, “Vibe Glidin,” sets the tone with a message to stay positive. “That one touches on the political climate. It was just to be like shake off the state that we’re in. Just try to live your life. Move forward.” Tachichi will celebrate the release – and his birthday – with a party at Halifax’s Seahorse Tavern on Saturday, July 12. The night will feature special guests including LXVNDR, Alfie, KXNG Wooz, Kaleb Simmonds, Megz & Paollo, and more, with DJs Double A and OKAY TK spinning jams from the ‘90s and ‘00s.
