Unscheduled gas price increase for Prince Edward Island

Gas Prices on the rise

The Prince Edward Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission approved increased petroleum prices effective as of 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

Price changes include:

• regular gasoline will increase by 9.5 cents per litre
• premium gasoline will increase by 8.5 cents per litre
• diesel will increase by 11.5 cents per litre
• furnace oil will increase by 10.5 cents per litre

Following the increases, new pump price ranges, including taxes are:

• regular unleaded gasoline at self-serve outlets will range from 180.3 to 181.5 cents per litre
• prices for premium unleaded gasoline will range from 190.0 to 191.1 cents per litre
• prices for diesel will range from 232.2 to 233.3 cents per litre

The maximum price for furnace oil is now 178.6 cents per litre.

Unscheduled price adjustments known as “interruptions” are a response to market conditions, said the release from the commission.

“Global markets are currently experiencing high volatility in response to geopolitical tensions abroad,” said the release. “As markets continue to respond to global events, the commission has had to respond with appropriate pricing adjustments to maintain fairness for Islanders and consistent supply.”

The commission’s next scheduled price adjustment is on Tuesday.
