A 42-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after he crashed his vehicle near Cornwall, P.E.I., and allegedly blew a breath sample four times the legal limit. Queens District RCMP received a 911 call about an erratic driver just before 10 a.m. Tuesday. The caller said the driver was changing speeds, striking curbs and had driven over the roundabout near Cows Creamery at North River. Police received a second 911 call reporting a single-vehicle collision at the roundabout. The North River Fire Department and Island EMS responded to the scene along with RCMP. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle crashed into a light pole, with the driver still seated inside. Police suspected the driver was intoxicated and arrested him at the scene. After a medical assessment, which found he had only minor injuries, he was taken to the Cornwall RCMP detachment. The RCMP says the man provided breath samples registering 0.320 and 0.300% blood alcohol concentration (BAC), which is four times the legal limit of 0.08%. The man, who has not yet been named, has been released and is due to appear in court on Jan. 19, 2026 to answer to charges of impaired operation.
