Prince Edward Island’s Province House is opening its doors again after 12 years of building restoration. An open house is scheduled for Oct. 24. It will begin with an opening parade, complete with pipers and dignitaries, up Great George Street to Province House on Richmond Street at 9:30 a.m. The official ceremony and ribbon-cutting will begin at 10 a.m. Province House will then be open for visitors to see the restored legislative chamber until 3 p.m. “Islanders are excited about the reopening of this historic building, the permanent home of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island,” said Speaker Brad Trivers. “We look forward to celebrating the return of our provincial parliament to this historic building to continue its democratic work for Islanders in its traditional home.” The legislature has not met in the legislative chamber since November 2014. Lawmakers first took their seats there in 1847. Province House is also the site of the 1864 talks that led to Canadian confederation.
