Police say two men were arrested for impaired driving in Summerside, P.E.I., over the weekend. The first incident happened around 11:40 p.m. Saturday following a 911 call from a member of the public. Summerside Police Services says the caller reported a grey Lexus was driving on the shoulder of the road and swerved in its lane in the Water Street East area. Officers found the vehicle in a parking lot on Water Street and identified the driver. Police say the 27-year-old Summerside man showed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene. He also provided breath samples that police describe as being twice the legal limit. The second incident happened about two hours later. Police say they got a complaint from the public about a suspicious vehicle. Officers found the vehicle travelling north on Central Street and pulled it over. “The driver, a 27-year-old West Prince man, failed a roadside screening test and was arrested at the scene. He later provided breath samples in excess of the legal limit,” police said in a post on Facebook. Both drivers had their vehicles impounded and were issued driving prohibitions. Police say they will also appear in court at a later date to answer to impaired driving-related charges. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
