Prince Edward Island has launched an online tool to help certified tradespeople work across the country. The Credential Verification Registry can be used to check for certifications issued since 2006. Searches can be done using a person’s name and certification number. Employers, contractors and homeowners can use it to see if a person holds a Certificate of Qualification and/or Red Seal. The province says the registry helps support the mobility of skilled trades workers in Canada through the Red Seal Program. “This registry makes it easier for certified tradespeople and apprentices to demonstrate their qualifications, have their credentials recognized, and pursue employment opportunities both in PEI and across Canada,” says Minister of Workforce and Advanced Learning Jenn Redmond. “At the same time, it gives employers a more efficient way to verify credentials, helping connect qualified workers with jobs when and where they are needed most.” Officials say the registry will also reduce administrative steps for workers, employers and industry partners. The tool cannot verify certifications issued in another province or territory, or the tradesperson’s location. Registries from other Canadian jurisdictions are also available online.
