‘Outstanding performance’: Arendz to bring two Paralympic medals home to P.E.I.

Prince Edward Island officials are congratulating cross-country skier Mark Arendz for his big wins at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.

Arendz, from Hartsville, P.E.I., earned a bronze medal in the men’s 10-kilometre interval start classic standing race last Wednesday. He finished in 29 minutes 59.3 seconds.

The 36-year-old also claimed silver in the men’s para-biathlon individual standing event on March 8.

Ernie Hudson, P.E.I.’s minister responsible for sport, says the two medals reaffirm Arendz’s place as one of Canada’s most decorated Paralympians.

“Mark is a trailblazer in para sport nationally and internationally, and his recent achievements add to an extraordinary career that spans several Paralympic Games and world championships,” Hudson said in a news release.

“Beyond these results, Mark is also recognized for his leadership and impact on the growth and profile of para sport, and he continues to be an inspiration for Islanders and young athletes across the country.”

Arendz collected two gold, four silver and six bronze in previous Winter Games.

Canada closed the 2026 Games with three gold, four silver and eight bronze to finish eighth in the gold-medal standings and sixth in overall medals.
