A new flight option has been announced for people on Prince Edward Island looking for a sunny winter destination. Air Transat will start a weekly non-stop route between Charlottetown and Punta Cana International Airport in the Dominican Republic in mid December. The airline says it will also bring back its popular weekly non-stop flights between Charlottetown and Cancún International Airport next winter. That service was announced early this year and will return in February 2027. “We are incredibly pleased to see Air Transat build on the strong response to their inaugural Cancun service this past winter and expand their presence at YYG with not one, but two sun destinations for Islanders this coming season,” said Doug Newson, the CEO of the Charlottetown Airport Authority. “The return of the Cancun route and the addition of Punta Cana reflect the growing demand for direct winter travel from Prince Edward Island and reinforce YYG’s role as a true gateway for our region. We look forward to welcoming travellers on both routes.” Both the Punta Cana and Cancún routes will operate once a week on Wednesdays. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
