The city of Charlottetown, P.E.I., will have a new mayor following Monday’s municipal elections. According to unofficial Elections PEI results, Amir Zuccolo won with more than 5,100 votes, defeating incumbent Philip Brown by more than 1,500 votes. Seven candidates were running for mayor, and Brown was seeking his third term. Zuccolo, a scientist and entrepreneur, will become the first woman to serve as mayor since Dorothy Corrigan in the 1970s. Meanwhile, Corey Snow has been elected the new mayor of Summerside. Snow has served on council since 2018 and was appointed deputy mayor in 2022. He replaces former mayor Dan Kutcher who resigned in September and is now the new leader of the Island’s Liberal Party. And in eastern P.E.I., Janice MacBeth will become the new mayor of Three Rivers after former mayor Debbie Johnston did not reoffer. The mayors of Cornwall, Minerva McCourt, and Stratford, Steve Ogden, were elected by acclamation. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
