Four people facing charges after string of break and enters: P.E.I. RCMP

Four people are facing charges after a string of break and enters on Prince Edward Island.

The West Prince RCMP says officers responded to multiple related incidents during the week of April 16 to April 21, including the theft of a vehicle in West Prince and break and enters at:

• a business in Norway
• a seasonal residence in Kildare Capes
• a construction trailer in Central Kildare

“Through investigation, police determined that all the offences were connected. As part of the investigation, a search warrant was executed at a residence in West Prince, where stolen tools were recovered,” reads a news release from the P.E.I. RCMP.

Police say the stolen vehicle was located and stopped in New Brunswick by Codiac Regional RCMP, resulting in the arrest of two occupants.

Four people were arrested in total and are facing charges in P.E.I. and/or New Brunswick.

“Tool markings and GPS trackable tools were key factors in solving these crimes,” said Cpl. Gavin Moore, P.E.I. RCMP media relations officer, in the release.

“We encourage the public to mark tools with paint, engravings, or other identifiers. Tools with built in or added GPS connectivity allow owners to register the tools and have access to their GPS location. In this case, markings and GPS tracking were crucial in linking recovered tools to multiple offences.”

Chance Aubrey Pitre, 26, was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Summerside provincial court on June 16 to face charges of:

• break and enter – P.E.I.
• mischief (damage to property – ankle monitoring bracelet) – P.E.I.
• fail to comply with release conditions – P.E.I.
• possession of property (vehicle) obtained by crime over $5,000 – New Brunswick

Zachary Austin Weatherbee, 27, was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Summerside provincial court on June 2 to face charges of:

• break and enter a business – P.E.I.
• fail to comply with a release order – P.E.I.
• operating a motor vehicle while prohibited – New Brunswick
• fail to comply with a release order – New Brunswick
• possession of property (vehicle) obtained by crime – New Brunswick

Brytton Leo Ellsworth, 24, is scheduled to appear in Summerside provincial court on May 27 to face a charge of break and enter a business.

Jamie Daniel Murphy, 44, is scheduled to appear in Summerside provincial court on May 27 to face two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
