‘Shame on you’: N.S. MP Chris d’Entremont booed during Remembrance Day ceremony

MP Chris d'Entremont was booed at a Remembrance Day event on Tuesday in Annapolis Royal, N.S.

A high-profile Nova Scotia politician was booed at a Remembrance Day event on Tuesday.

Chris d’Entremont, the longtime Conservative MP who crossed the floor to join the Liberals last week, attended the ceremony at the legion in Annapolis Royal, N.S.

When he laid a wreath in front of the stage, booing could be heard, sparking some grumbles from other members in the audience.

The legion president issued a statement following the incident and said at least three people booed d’Entremont, who represents the riding of Acadie-Annapolis.

“To those that ‘booed’ Chris d’Entremont at the service, we say SHAME ON YOU. You have ruined the day that we remember our fathers, sons, daughters and grandparents that paid the ultimate sacrifice for the very thing you seemed entitled to … the right to give your opinion,” Angela Amero said.

“There is a time and place for political discord. Everyone has a right to voice their opinion. A Remembrance Day is not one of those times or places.”

d’Entremont has declined repeated requests for comment from CTV News since he crossed the floor to join the Liberals.

The Nova Scotia MP previously said in a statement that his decision to cross the floor was prompted by the 2025 federal budget, which made him realize “there is a better path forward” for his constituents and the country, and that the prime minister is the one “offering that path.”

“Over the last number of months, I wasn’t feeling that I was aligned with the ideals of what the leader of the Opposition had been talking about,” d’Entremont said last week.

A Conservative MP since 2019, d’Entremont won his seat with a narrow 1.1 per cent margin of victory — 533 votes — over the Liberal candidate in the last federal election.
