The second annual Local Philippine Market brought dozens through Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, N.S., Sunday. The event, hosted by the Filipino Association of Nova Scotia, was a celebration of culture, community and creativity. “We are showcasing Filipino business owners,” says Katherine Ednalaguim, the vice-president of the Filipino Association of Nova Scotia. “Most of us are small business owners, (creating) homemade stuff, DIY crafts.” The event ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and featured 15 Filipino small businesses. A variety of food and clothing vendors were present, accompanied by live music. One display promoted the association’s mental health program. “I think it’s very important to have this event, so that everybody can see the Filipino culture by showing all the business owners in our community,” says Ednalaguim.
