A Nova Scotia RCMP officer who is already facing sexual assault charges is now looking at an additional offence following an investigation by the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT). SiRT says it launched the investigation after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault by an RCMP officer in January 2023. The officer and the woman were known to each other. SiRT charged Const. William McNutt with sexual assault on Monday. He will appear in court in Shubenacadie on Thursday. SiRT has previously charged McNutt with alleged sexual assaults that occurred in 2023 and 2024. The RCMP suspended McNutt without pay in January 2024. “The criminal charges against Cst. McNutt are extremely alarming and distressing, and this additional charge is even more so,” said RCMP assistant commissioner Dennis Daley in a news release. “My senior leadership team and I take all allegations of misconduct very seriously, and the Nova Scotia RCMP is continuing to cooperate fully with SiRT. An internal code of conduct process is also under way.” SiRT investigates all matters involving sexual assault, intimate partner violence, serious injury and death that may have arisen due to the actions of Nova Scotia or New Brunswick police officers.
