N.S. announces $13M to support mental health, addictions programs

The Nova Scotia government is spending more than $13 million on mental health and addictions programs over the next three years.

The Nova Scotia government announced millions of dollars to support mental health and addictions programs across the province.

The provincial government says a total of $13.8 million will go towards 23 community organizations over three years to help them expand their reach.

“We received tremendous interest in response to this funding. It’s incredibly encouraging to see so many community organizations supporting Nova Scotians. They are an essential part of the system of care for mental health and addictions and I’m grateful for everything they are doing,” said Brian Comer, minister of Addictions and Mental Health.

“The connections these organizations have within the community help people access support closer to home.”

Through the grant program, organizations can apply for up to $250,000 per year to provide mental health and addictions programs and supports that meet the needs of the community.

“This funding will enable us to expand our reach and offer more Nova Scotians the opportunity to engage in peer support groups that promote empowerment and foster meaningful connections,” said Johanne Thompson, executive director of Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division.

“With this support, we are one step closer to building a mentally healthier and more inclusive community for all Nova Scotians.”
