Nova Scotians can now book COVID-19, flu vaccine appointments

Nova Scotia residents can now book appointments for the COVID-19 and influenza vaccines.

The Nova Scotia government says the free vaccines are recommended for everyone aged six months and older.

Nova Scotians can book an appointment with their family doctor, nurse practitioner or family practice nurse, or at their local pharmacy, public health office or mobile unit.

Appointments can be made:

• by calling your primary care provider

Family booking is also available, which allows one person to book up to six people for a single appointment.

“Vaccination against COVID-19 and influenza helps protect you, your loved ones and your community and supports a safer, healthier respiratory illness season,” said Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health, in a news release.

“It’s important for people at increased risk of severe illness to get vaccinated, including older adults and anyone of any age with chronic health conditions. The care providers who support them should also get vaccinated to help increase the protection for these individuals.”

The province says children younger than nine who have never had the flu vaccine should receive two doses four weeks apart.

An enhanced flu vaccine is available for people aged 65 and older.

As for the COVID-19 vaccine, it’s recommended to wait at least three months after having a COVID-19 infection or vaccine before receiving the updated COVID-19 vaccine.
