Neptune Theatre in Halifax has announced its shows for this year’s upcoming season. After wrapping with sold out shows to “Mamma Mia,” artistic director Jeremy Webb unveiled some of the other shows audiences can expect. “We had so much fun with it, it extended, over 33,000 people came through the doors to see ‘Mamma Mia,’” Webb told CTV Atlantic’s Crystal Garrett. Following the closure of “Mamma Mia” is a show starting Sept. 23 called “Mischief,” which runs until Oct. 12. The play, written by Mi’kmaw playwright Lisa Nasson, follows a young woman named Brooke who is balancing mystical encounters with an ancient ancestor, daily shifts at her uncle’s convenience store and a local movement to remove a statue of her city’s colonial founder. “Through gentle humour and sharp insight, Brooke confronts the question: how can she reconcile the resilience of her ancestors with the weight of living in a society that has long scrutinized and stereotyped her people?” a news release about the play reads. A musical called “Bear Grease,” an Indigenous take on the musical “Grease” will also take the Neptune stage from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5. As well as “The Wizard of Oz,” “Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolf?”, “Come from Away” and several other shows are on the docket.
