Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) has cancelled the 45th annual Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition due to dry conditions. The event was scheduled to place Sunday and typically attracts around 10,000 people. The municipality cancelled the event, citing residents’ safety due to the single lane access road. “Municipal staff have determined that, with continued dry conditions and no immediate rain in the forecast, the risk is too high to safely move forward with the event,” a post from HRM reads. Clam Harbour Beach, located within the Clam Harbour Provincial Park, remains open to the public. The municipality reminds visitors that the surrounding wooded park area remains closed in accordance with the province’s woods ban, which was put in place earlier this month.
