Halifax-based Events East Group has announced its new president and CEO. The company is known for operating the Halifax Convention Centre and Scotiabank Centre. Suzanne Fougere, who currently serves as executive vice president, strategy and business development, has been named as president and CEO. She first joined Events East in 2010 and most recently developed the new long-term strategic plan for the organization into 2030. The company says Fougere brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. “Suzanne has been instrumental in driving growth while advancing the overall impact that Events East has on our city and province,” says board chair Norm Mensour. “The Board wishes to congratulate Suzanne on her appointment. We are confident that she will continue to do incredible things as our new President and CEO.” Fougere herself says this is an “exciting time” for Events East. “I look forward to working collaboratively with our partners, our customers and our community to further enhance the impact we can create through our venues and events,” she said. Fougere also serves as the chair of the board of directors for the QEII Foundation and sits on the board for United Way Maritimes. Her appointment as Events East’s new president and CEO takes effect on April 1 and her term will last for five years. Current president and CEO Carrie Cussons announced last year that she planned to leave the role in March. Events East says it has hosted more than 1,500 events, welcomed more than 3.2 million guests and generated more than $550 million since 2018.
