The Halifax Regional Police is warning people about a scam phone call claiming to be from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Police say they responded to the reported scam around 5:50 p.m. on Friday. They learned someone representing themselves as being from the CBSA told the victim their spouse had been arrested and would be deported unless they paid their bail. “The caller then gave instructions to the victim on how to withdraw the money and how it would be collected,” a police news release reads. “The scammer appeared to have taken control of the victim’s phone in such a way that they knew exactly where they were at all times and kept them on the line during the entire process.” Police are reminding the public to hang up immediately when they get a scam phone call and to not provide any personal or banking information.
