Halifax home prices dropped slightly in the spring: report

The price of a home in Halifax fell by half a percentage point this spring compared to last year as the Canadian housing market shook off a sluggish winter, according to a new report from Royal LePage.

The 2026 home price update found the aggregate cost of a Halifax home is $528,600, which is down from this time last year, but up 0.6 per cent compared to earlier in 2026.

“Our spring market got off to a delayed start compared to previous years, with momentum not building until late April,” said Matt Honsberger, broker and owner with Royal LePage Atlantic, in a news release. “Lingering winter weather, interprovincial transfer taxes, and broader economic uncertainty all weighed on the market’s natural seasonal lift.

“As activity picked up, new listings followed, but a general sense of hesitation has taken hold. Consumers are not entirely disinterested, but the absence of urgency is keeping inventory well stocked.”

According to the report, the median price of a single-family detached home in Halifax is $605,600 while the median cost of a condominium is $399,100.

“A late spring should translate into a more active summer than usual, with July likely bringing more listings – and more buyers – to the market,” Honsberger said. “Flat rental costs remain a persistent challenge, dampening the urgency for renters to transition into ownership.”

Royal LePage is forecasting the aggregate price of a Halifax home will grow by four per cent by the end of the year, reaching $532,168.
