Halifax Emera Oval reopens for winter season

Halifax’s largest outdoor skating rink has reopened for the winter season.

The Emera Oval opened its gates to skaters for the 2025-26 season on Monday and announced some of upcoming events at the rink.

The facility includes an accessible washroom, street parking on Cogswell, and wheelchair access to the ice surface.

Visitors can also rent equipment like skates and helmets for free with a valid ID.

Children under the age of 12 are required to wear CSA-approved, multi-impact hockey helmets.

A “Skate with Santa” event was announced for Saturday giving residents the chance to skate while holiday music plays and Santa and the Grinch hand out candy canes. A New Years Eve skate from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. was also announced

A “sensory skate” will also take place every Monday from 4-5 p.m. when no music will be played and no large groups will be booked.
