A young Nova Scotia entrepreneur’s protein gummy bear business is about to tack on some major mass. Swole Bears, which were launched by Rory Fox in 2023, are high-protein, low-calorie gummies. The 18-year-old, who has seen big success with the bears, has moved his business into a production facility. “It was a huge step for us,” Fox said. “We spent nearly $200,000 to get all of our ingredients, all of our equipment and get set up to be able to produce our first batch here. “To spend that kind of money at 18 years old, it’s a little nerve-wracking trying to think, ‘Is this even going to work?’” Fox, who originally made his gummy batches at home, has expanded to retails across Eastern Canada. “Right now we’re in all those Sobeys across Atlantic Canada, about 75 stores,” he said. “We’re also in about 20 Lawtons. “As soon as we got into our first store, they were just flying off the shelf.” Fox said he now typically works 16-hour days trying to keep up with the demand. He’s also hired employees to help with the orders. “We’re at the point now where I physically cannot do all the work that needs to be done, so hiring was essential,” he said. “I started as a kid making like eight bags or 20 bags a week out of his home kitchen.” For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
