It’s still not clear how a newborn baby, who was missing in the Halifax area earlier this year, died. Two people, who were charged in the baby’s death, had their case moved to Nova Scotia Supreme Court on Tuesday. Sukhpreet Singh, 24, and his wife, Ramandeep Kaur, 27, were charged with disposing a child’s body with intent to conceal the fact that it had been delivered, indignity to a dead body, obstruction of a peace officer and obstruction of justice. Singh, who is related to the victim, appeared virtually from jail in court Tuesday. Kaur, who has been released on bail, did not appear, but lawyers for both were in court. “The investigation remains ongoing, is about all I can say on that front right now,” Crown prosecutor Kevin Nightingale told reporters outside court. Asked if more charges could be laid depending on autopsy results, he said, “That’d be something for the police to consider.” “In Nova Scotia, the police lay the charges and the Crown prosecutes.” CTV News reached out to Halifax police for comment on Tuesday. “We don’t have any updates to provide,” a spokesperson said. In May, police launched a two-day search for the infant after a 23-year-old woman who appeared to have just given birth showed up in hospital with life-threatening injuries. They eventually found the infant’s remains in a wooded area off Old Coach Road in Goodwood. The woman later died in hospital.
