A man who was arrested in connection with the suspicious death of a woman in Cape Breton over the weekend has now been charged with second-degree murder. Cape Breton Regional Police say 40-year-old Sluaghan MacDonald of Sydney Mines, N.S., has been remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre following their investigation into the woman’s death, which they were initially calling suspicious. Police responded to a 911 call of a woman in medical distress at a home in Hillside Boularderie, N.S., around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. The woman was taken to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, where she later died. MacDonald was arrested at the scene. “While the investigation is ongoing, police continue to treat this as an isolated incident with no further risk to public safety,” said Cape Breton Regional Police in a news release Monday. Investigators have confirmed MacDonald knew the victim, but haven’t released any other information, including her name.
