Canadian music legend Anne Murray surprised one team at Sunday’s Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Takeover Tour game in Halifax. The Juno Award winner and Springhill, N.S., native read the Ottawa Charge’s starting lineups ahead their matchup against the Boston Fleet at the Scotiabank Centre. Ottawa’s head coach Carla MacLeod was perhaps the biggest fan in the room. “I just want to make sure, Anne, you know how much this actually does mean,” she said before unzipping her vest to unveil a shirt with the singer’s face on the front and “ANNE FREAKIN’ MURRAY” written on the back. Murray then read the lineup before wishing the team a great game. Ottawa went on to win 2-1 win over Boston during a shootout goal in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 10,400. “We had this Takeover Tour game circled on the calendar. We knew it was going to be a packed house on the East Coast. Outside of TD Place, this is the loudest crowd we’ve heard this season. It was awesome,” Charge captain Brianne Jenner said.
