Canadian actor Tom Jackson is kicking off his coast-to-coast campaign, Santa’s Crazy Sox Box, at Souls Harbour Rescue Mission in Halifax on Thursday. Jackson will be making the first sock delivery to guests having lunch at the mission. Santa’s Crazy Sox Box is Jackson’s national campaign that collects socks, toques, scarves and other warm winter gear to give to those in need across the country. “We had this crazy idea so we encouraged people to put crazy socks in a box and it had to find a home and it ended up here,” Jackson said. The campaign welcomes Canadians to get involved by grabbing a box, tape on the downloadable poster featuring Jackson’s face, and start collecting. “Sometimes the simplest ideas are the ones that can truly save a life. You don’t need a big budget or a fancy campaign to make an impact. Just a box, some socks, and a whole lot of love,” says Michelle Porter, CEO of Souls Harbour Rescue Mission. The “Sullivan’s Crossing” actor says he wanted to offer something every Canadian could participate in. “It can start with a toque, a scarf, or one pair of socks,” says Jackson. “A pair of socks is like a hug for your feet, a small act of love that can warm Canada up and save lives this winter.” Souls Harbour invites individuals, workplaces, schools and community groups to join in the movement. “We started a crazy sox box on set at Sullivan’s Crossing which we have done for four years and everyone fills it up and we brought hundreds of socks here today,” said Lori Bellefontaine, transport captain for Sullivan’s Crossing.
