The Department of National Defence (DND) says military housing will be expanded at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Greenwood in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley. The expansion will bring approximately 200 new residential housing units to the area. One and two-bedroom unit apartments will be constructed within existing residential housing areas. DND says the first phase of construction, which involves 48 new units, is well underway. The department adds CFB Greenwood was prioritized as one of nine locations facing the most acute housing pressures. It says the new units will help recruit and retain members by improving access to safe housing while supporting local economies. “Providing modern, energy-efficient housing is critical to strengthening the Canadian Armed Forces and improving the quality of life for our personnel. Expanding residential units in Greenwood builds on real progress and demonstrates our commitment to military families, operational readiness, and easing pressure on local housing markets. We are ensuring CAF members have the support they need to serve Canada,” says Minister of National Defence David J. McGuinty.
