The world’s top men’s curling teams are headed for Saint John, N.B., in 2027. The Port City will play host to the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship, which will take place from March 27 to April 4, 2027, at the TD Station. “It has been over 10 years since we hosted a World Curling event in Saint John and we are looking forward to returning for the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship in 2027,” said Eeva Roethlisberger, head of competitions for World Curling, in a news release. “Previous events hosted there have been a major success, and we are certain together we will produce a fantastic competition for the top men’s teams in the world.” According to Curling Canada, this will be the first World Men’s Championship to be played under a new format featuring an 18-team field, with two pools of nine teams. The pool winners will progress directly to the semi-finals, while the second and third placed teams from each pool will play crossover qualification games for the remaining semi-final spots. “It’s going to be a new format, but also important from an economic impact standpoint, obviously that’s five more teams worth of players and support staff that will create more heads and beds that the local hotels will appreciate as well,” said Al Cameron, with Curling Canada. Saint John has previously hosted world curling championships in 1999 and 2014. “The City of Saint John has a long history of supporting major sporting events, and we believe the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship will further enhance our city’s reputation as a vibrant and welcoming destination for athletes, coaches, volunteers, and spectators alike,” said City of Saint John Mayor Donna Noade Reardon. “We also recognize the lasting legacy that the event will leave, both through the volunteer opportunities it will create and the long-term impact it will have on curling programs in our region.” “The bid from Saint John was superb, and based on that community’s support of major events in the past, and support of the City of Saint John and Province of New Brunswick, we’re confident that the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship will be a major success on and off the ice,” said Nolan Thiessen, CEO of Curling Canada, in the release. The Canadian team will be decided at the 2027 Brier, scheduled for Feb. 26 to March 7 in Saskatoon. Curling Canada says ticket and volunteer information will be released at a later date.
