The federal government’s Community-Building Fund is offering $50 million this year for local infrastructure projects in New Brunswick. The money is earmarked for local governments to build and revitalize infrastructure while creating jobs. Eligible projects include: “This money will help local governments across the province build and revitalize their local public infrastructure while creating jobs and long-term prosperity,” said MLA Aaron Kennedy, minister of local government and minister responsible for Service New Brunswick, in a Friday news release. “This valuable partnership will help our communities grow and become even more vibrant.” The Town of Quispamsis will receive $1.4 million this year to continue work on three projects related to streets, wastewater and drinking water. “Knowing that we have this infrastructure money, it’s going to provide a lot of good things to happen here in Quispamsis,” said Quispamsis Mayor Libby O’Hara. O’Hara says the developments underground in the town will help spur development above ground with housing and commercial buildings. The provincial and federal governments signed a 10-year agreement last year with the province receiving $255 million in the first five years.
