The New Brunswick and federal governments have struck a deal worth nearly half a billion dollars, much of which will go to health-related projects. The $461-million bilateral agreement will go towards priority projects in New Brunswick, including $155 million for health-related infrastructure. The first major project to benefit from the deal is the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, which will receive $25.7 million for endoscopy modernization and expansion. “This investment will help us expand and modernize health-care infrastructure, including at Georges-L.-Dumont, while creating more opportunities to build affordable housing,” said Premier Susan Holt in a news release. “By working with our federal partners, we are building the capacity we need to deliver better care closer to home and make life more affordable for New Brunswickers.” Health Minister John Dornan said the money will allow the government to upgrade and expand health-care facilities across the province.
