The race is on for four local high school choirs to earn a spot on stage with the iconic rock band Foreigner. Online voting to determine which choir will perform the hit song “I Want to Know What Love Is” at the Avenir Centre in Moncton, N.B., on Oct. 25, closes tomorrow. The Avenir Centre launched online voting after nominations were submitted. The winning choir not only gets to share the stage with Foreigner but also secures a $500 donation for their school’s music program from the band. Maeve Marshall, a Grade 12 student involved in the drama club at Petitcodiac Regional School, shared her excitement about the contest. “The directors just must’ve saw it online or saw a post about it…. We thought it was super cool and we said, yeah, we definitely want to try to see if we can, win the contest,” Marshall said. Joining Petitcodiac Regional School as finalists are Harrison Trimble and Bernice McNaughton from Moncton, and Tantramar High School in Sackville. Marshall noted that the enthusiasm for this unique opportunity extends beyond the students. “I mean, kids our age, you know, don’t know as much of the 80s kind of bands. But, my mom really thought it was a cool opportunity,” she said. Online voting concludes tomorrow at 10 a.m. Marshall emphasized the bigger picture of the competition for students. “I think if anyone should vote, I think they should do it for any school really….
