Memramcook, N.B., is offering financial help to residents hit hardest by the ongoing water shortage.

A New Brunswick town is offering financial help to residents who were hit hardest by a water shortage.

The Village of Memramcook is introducing a reimbursement program for residents which would cover up to 75 per cent of water delivery costs to a maximum of $1,000 per household.

The drought in the area is hitting many residents hard as around half of the village – around 400 homes – rely on wells which have been left dry after this year’s summer.

In a council meeting on Friday, officials also agreed to make water available at a fill station after residents voiced their concerns that they weren’t equipped to handle water delivery.

The town has also offered the local rink as a place residents can go to take a shower.

Memramcook says it is looking at the idea of installing a semi-permanent paid water station within the village as well.
