Wild weather prompts tornado watch in Cape Breton

CTV Atlantic: Wild weather prompts tornado watch Environment Canada issued a tornado watch for parts of Cape Breton Sunday evening, following a severe thunderstorm warning.

UPDATE: The tornado watch issued for Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County has ended.

The tornado watch was issued by Environment Canada around 5:40 p.m. and ended around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to Environment Canada, earlier conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes.

The national weather agency also reported there were indications from doppler radar that a severe thunderstorm five kilometres east of Irish Cove is had rotational properties.

At one point, Environment Canada said the storm was tracking eastward at about 25 kilometres an hour.
