Laura Thompson, the co-founder of a Canadian skincare company, said they are “hunkering down” amid the ongoing trade war between Canada and the United States. Thompson, who launched Three Ships in 2020, said many of the ingredients for their products come from the United States. She noted they aren’t paying tariffs on them yet, but she expects that could change. “Many of them are proprietary to the suppliers from the U.S.,” Thompson told CTV News Atlantic’s Todd Battis. “They’re the only source. We’d have no choice but to raise our prices. “It’s a hard period of time because things are changing so rapidly.” Thompson said 40 per cent of her company’s business comes from the United States. As the tariff dispute drags on, they’re focusing on building for long-term success. “Now is a time we’re not overextending ourselves,” she said. “We’re taking smart investments and hunkering down.” Thompson noted the company has seen an outpouring of support from Canadian customers. “It’s incredible how they’ve shown up,” she said. “The power of voting with your dollars. It’s not just a symbolic gesture. It’s something that’s really important for us to keep in mind.”
