Journalist, CTVNewsAtlantic.ca

Bruce Frisko is a senior anchor at CTV Atlantic and one of the longest-serving local television anchors in Canada. Born in the village of Lestock, Sask., Bruce graduated from the University of Regina with a BA in Journalism and Communications in 1990. After a two-year stint in radio, Bruce worked in television in Lethbridge and Edmonton before moving east to Halifax in 1995 to co-anchor Atlantic Pulse on ASN. He later helped launch ATV Headline News and ATV News Nightside. In addition to the late news, Bruce became co-host of the popular Live at 5 program in 2003, a position he held for more than 12 years. During this time, the evening news programs would regularly go on the road for remote broadcasts. These programs became significant events in smaller communities, often attracting hundreds of people. In 2015, Bruce became the sole anchor and producer of the weekend edition of CTV News at 6:00 and, within two years, it was the third-highest rated program in the Maritimes, trailing only CTV News at 5:00 and 6:00. During this period, Bruce also reported for the local network, displaying a talent for longer, investigative pieces. In 2018, Bruce was awarded the RTDNA Dave Rogers Long Feature Award for a series that shed new light on the last man executed in Halifax. Along with bringing the families together for the first time in generations, the stories resulted in a grave marker being erected at the burial site. In 2020, he won the Dave Rogers Short Feature Award for an exclusive piece that revealed the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of Canada’s most prolific art thief. He also completed a five-part series documenting his sister’s life-saving liver transplant. In 2024, the weekend news was awarded the best RTDNA Breaking News Program for special coverage of the Nova Scotia Wildfires. Bruce was also anchoring the 6:00 News during the Nova Scotia Floods later that year: that program won Best TV Newscast. In the spring of 2024, network programming changes brought Bruce back to where he started – anchoring the late-night news. Over the years, Bruce has been privileged to cover a number of marquee events including the G7 Summit, Hurricane Juan and provincial elections. Bruce annually commits to several events sponsored by CTV including Bowl for Kids Sake in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, the IWK Telethon and Christmas Daddies. In September of 2025, Bruce was awarded the RTDNA East Lifetime Achievement Award. He lives in Hammonds Plains with his wife, Tanya, and their two senior dogs, Elvis and Cash.
