MONTREAL - A mother has received an apology from a children's clothing store that asked her to stop breastfeeding her five-month-old daughter.

Shannon Smith was shopping at a Montreal boutique last week when her infant got hungry, so she began nursing her in a secluded play area meant for kids.

Employees at the Orchestra store told Smith she wasn't allowed to breastfeed there.

Smith says she complied with the request and left the store -- but she grew angry and blogged about the item, triggering a torrent of outrage.

Jean-Claude Yana, president of Orchestra, wrote a letter of apology to Smith, saying the company allows breastfeeding in stores and that an employee has been disciplined over the incident.

Smith says she accepts the apology.
