MONTREAL - Montreal police are investigating yet another attack on an Italian cafe.

Tuesday night's arson attempt at the Resto Cote Est occurred in a neighbourhood where other cafes were hit by similar attacks last year.

Robbery appears to have been one of the motives as three men stormed the cafe.

Police say an employee was pistol-whipped and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

An attempt to torch the cafe using gasoline and Molotov cocktails was unsuccessful.

The cafe was the site of a homicide in December 2008 when a 46-year-old man was gunned down.

An 18-year-old Montreal man is charged in connection with a string of firebombings of Italian coffee shops last year that police believe is the work of street gangs.

Police spokeswoman Anie Lemieux says investigators are trying to determine whether the robbery is linked to the spate of recent firebombings or the homicide.
