The discovery of a dead cat frozen into a solid block of ice is raising concern about cases of animal cruelty in Dawson Creek, B.C.
SPCA staff were called to a trailer park on Tuesday and found the animal corpse encased in ice. The cat appeared to have been intentionally frozen into the block, using a plastic container or household storage box.
The ice was found on top of a hydro power box, in clear view of local residents.
Disturbed neighbours say it's not the first time that a dead animal has been found in a frozen shroud.
"This is not a prank. This is not funny," said the SPCA's Marcie Moriarty.
About a year ago, a dog was found in a block of ice in the same area. Both animals were configured in a similar way and the SPCA believes that one person is likely involved in both cases.
The cat's body has been sent for a necropsy, but the dog's test results were inconclusive about a cause of death.
"Whoever is doing this, it's very important that we are able to find them. Who knows what else they're doing?" said Moriarty.
