MIRABEL, Que. - Brittany Lincicome sank a par putt on the 18th hole in a driving rain to win the CN Canadian Women's Open by one stroke over defending champion Michelle Wie and Stacy Lewis on Sunday.

Lincicome closed the tournament with a 2-under-par 70 to claim her fifth LPGA Tour victory and second this year.

The 25-year-old American had as a caddy former LPGA regular A.J. Eathorn of Penticton, B.C., who has taken a break from playing.

Lewis had the low round of the day at 67 to finish tied with Wie at 12 under.

Wie sank long putts on the 15th and 17th to make it close.

She needed a birdie on the 18th to force a playoff, but missed the green, took a drop to get clear of a fence, and made par.

Wie won the tournament last year in Winnipeg.

Cristie Kerr (71) and Angela Stanford (72) finished at 11 under as Americans took the top five placings.

Jessica Shepley of Oakville, Ont., was low Canadian at 1-under 287 after a 74 and Jisoo Keel of Coquitlam, B.C., was low amateur for the tournament at 4-over 292.

Fears that the tournament would not be concluded because of remnants of tropical storm Irene did not pan out. It rained heavily on the back nine for the leaders and there were gusting winds, but nothing that would force play to be stopped.

Organizers moved up start times by 90 minutes, had them play in threesomes instead of twosomes, and started groups on both the first and tenth tees to get the fourth round in before the course could be washed out.

If the final round was had been cancelled, there were plans for a playoff between the three 54-hole leader Wie, Tiffany Joh and Ai Miyuzato.
