An Alberta woman has been dropped as a patient by her doctor, after she spoke publicly about receiving the medical reports of two other patients in the mail.

Lori Orban, who lives in Viking, east of Edmonton, must now find another doctor.

"Every time I ask for help, it seems like I am getting the door slammed in my face," she told CTV Edmonton.

The office of Dr. Gert Grobler at Viking Health Centre admits it made an error when it sent Orban the medical reports of other patients, and said it had traced the issue back to its photocopy machine.

When CTV Edmonton did a report on the mistake last week, it tried to contact Grobler but he was away and unable to provide a comment.

After the report aired, Orban discovered that Grobler no longer felt comfortable being her doctor.

"I said, ‘Well, do you think that is the right thing to do, I haven't done anything wrong,'" she said. "And he said, ‘Well, you went to the news, you should have come to me and we could have taken care of it.'"

CTV Edmonton spoke to Grobler after he dropped Orban as a patient.

He said he felt a certain amount of trust had been broken because Orban spoke to CTV before contacting him the previous week, but he had no problem with her speaking to a reporter.

Orban said she plans to file a complaint with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
