The nearly two-month wait for an Ontario couple to pick up some $50 million in lotto winnings is almost over.

JoAnn and Gaetan Champagne will collect their cheque during a presentation in Toronto on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The couple claimed the winning ticket on Dec. 30, but had to wait for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation to ensure the win was legitimate. An investigation was launched because the couple runs a convenience store.

But now that the OLG has found it to be a clean victory, the couple can finally cash in.

At first, the couple thought they had won $50,000. But when they double checked, they realized it was a lot more.

"It's still sinking in," JoAnn told CTV Ottawa last month.

Added her husband: "When I checked the numbers and I saw the seven numbers were matching, that's when I realized it was $50 million."

The Champagnes are from Hawkesbury, which is along the Quebec border.

The region has become a lucky one for lotto players: a group won $16 million in nearby Aylmer and in the past few years, more than $110 million has been won in the area and in west Quebec.
