Richard Berthelsen

Richard Berthelsen is an expert on the Royal Family. Since 2009, he has been commenting on royal news, issues, births, weddings and other matters for CTVNews.ca, CTV News Channel and Bell Media, along with other networks internationally and in print. Richard has also served four governors general and lieutenant-governors, and has helped organize royal visits and major ceremonies over the past 40 years. He has contributed to the work of the Canadian Heraldic Authority as well as on the creation of national, provincial and municipal honours, symbols, ceremonies and commemorations. He is frequently sought after as a consultant to federal and provincial governments in issues related to the Crown, and has published several academic papers and articles on the role of the Crown in Canada. Richard has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2024), as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Golden (2002) and Diamond Jubilee (2012) medals. He speaks English and French.
