Naheed Nenshi

Naheed Nenshi is the leader of the Official Opposition in Alberta and the leader of Alberta’s New Democrats. He is also the MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona, elected in June 2025. He previously served three terms as mayor of Calgary from 2010 to 2021. He led the city through major crises — including the 2013 floods and the COVID‑19 pandemic — and was awarded the 2014 World Mayor Prize as the best mayor in the world. Before entering public office, Nenshi worked as a management consultant and a tenured professor of business. He holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Calgary and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
