Kayla Thompson

Kayla joined the CTV News team as a recipient of the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s annual Black Journalism Fellowship. A former recipient of The Walrus’ fellowship for emerging Black journalists, Kayla spent a few months on the media organization’s digital team in 2025, producing social media content across a variety of digital channels. Prior to joining CTV News, she produced and hosted a docuseries in collaboration with OMNI’s Caribbean Vibrations TV that highlighted the contributions of Black Canadian entrepreneurs. In 2024 she was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays' in-game entertainment team. Kayla holds a bachelor of journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University, where she produced content for The Journalistic Role Performance Project (JRP) - a cross-national project that systematically analyzes journalistic cultures in new media landscapes-and web designed for the Future Skills Centre - a centre for innovation and applied research. She speaks English.
